Dr. Yolanda L. Dunston is currently a professor at North Carolina Central University with over 30 years of preK-adult educator experience. Prior to working at NCCU, she was an elementary school teacher in multiple districts in North Carolina, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Wake County Public Schools, and Durham Public Schools, and a literacy consultant for families of K-12 students in the Triangle area. At NCCU, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses related to literacy and language arts, and often works with student teachers during their final internship. Her scholarly efforts focus on K-6 literacy, effective teaching in K-12 and higher education settings, and distance/online learning for non-traditional college students. She is a co-author of The Ultimate Student Teaching Guide, co-author of The Other Side of the Desk: A Closer Look at Teaching, and a contributing author for Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina: Educating Traumatized Children Pre-K through College.
She earned a BA in Elementary Education, an MEd in Literacy, and a PhD in Literacy, all from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also holds a Class A License (Elementary K-6) as well as Class M (Reading K-12) License.
